Cracking a Windshield?

Have any of you out there seen an undamaged windshield get broken in a tunnel? I have seen a crack get bigger, but never seen a windshield damaged without prior damage affected by a car wash. Vehicle in question is a 2007 Volvo S70. New one to me. My cameras are not aimed at windshields so I don't have a clear shot of the vehicles windshield prior to us washing.

Any ideas?

Yes I have. A glass company we've dealt with told me after an incident that if a vehicle has a windshield replaced and it is not done properly, that under extreme temperature conditions (hot or cold) that it can crack without any prior apparent damage. Normally though, you can find a star or impact mark on the windshield if you look hard enough.

I have never seen a windshield get damaged in a tunnel. I'm willing to bet that it was recently replaced, or you will find an impact mark like Chiefs said.

Actually, if a windshield has pre-existing damage or has been replaced incorrectly and water with a temperature differential of 100 degrees or more is applied (hot to cold or cold to hot) a crack will run further or a star will turn into a crack. Either way you look at it, the car wash is not responsible.
