Greetings ---

I recently saw an ad for "BayProof" Cameras, what camera setups do you have? Any advice?

I'm interested in this , too. Maybe Old Timer has some ideas?

My ADT guy quoted me for a 4 camera system w/DVR. I was told by someone else that the cameras need to heated or they fog up in the car wash.

We run a 12 camera system with DVR and none of our cameras are heated and they do not fog up. We do however need to clean the lenses on a regular basis from the water and dirt that mist in the wash. I would reccomend getting a camera system if you can and be sure you have one that you can view from a remote location. I can do that with ours, it's nice to be able to click on the cameras from home and check in on the wash at any time day or night from anywhere that has a hisgh speed internet connection. They have been indispensable. Jeremy

"bayproof" is an interesting term for camera.

We use a lot of "bullet" cameras. they are inexpensive (around $100), but produce a suprisingly good picture. I have some still running after four years. They are sealed, and condesnsation is not a problem, but I am in the realtively mild climate of Alabama. I don't know how they perfrom up north.

The best thing to do is get them out of the overspray if possible.

I started using a digital PC based system in 2002 and have had no real problems. But I am relatively computer literate and this makes all the difference in the world. In the past couple of years the price of dedicated DVRs has come down to affordable levels, and the performance has incresed. This is where I'll probably look if one of my system ever gets fried.

Oldtimer, do you have a special camera setup you wish to talk about?

I will , if you like. I have a gotten into video security as a business. I didn't do this to try to cut into other businesses markets. I'm selling to anyone but I have a lot going on just around me locally. I can get just about any camera or DVR made. I have two cameras that I like in wash bay configurations. Nothing is foolproof as what you might be led to believe. I don't like the small cigar sized bullets. They generate too much heat and moisture is attracted to heat. (distributor cap on old cars)I have two different cameras that work well in high moisture or very wet conditions. One is a KT&C and the other is Hunt. Both very good and both have inferred. One 30 feet and the other is 80 ft. You can view both of these cameras live on my video server. I will give you the link in a minute. Ch#1 is the 80 ft hunt cam and Ch#3 is the KT&C 30 inferred. Ch#2 is a small postage stamp sized cam that I put in Unitec's or changers. But is not IR. Check them out, in the daylight hours and at night. They are mounted at my home. My website is being developed now and will have an on line shopping cart. It takes a while to set all this up right. And very expensive. The video server (Web eye) will ask to download a small (300k)plugin. Its my server so its safe. Its not like some big 3 meg plug ins that are required on some programs. You can contact me by phone or email. I don't know if I can post my phone but I will and if Allan deletes it thats ok. 816-719-9681 I'm VERY competitive on pricing. ghaddock@kc.rr.com and here is the link to the video server. http://72.129.165.146/login.ml Just click login and it will sence what browser you have then you will give permission to load the plug in.

I might add that I can get 2.7mm,3.6mm,4.3mm,6mm,8mm,12mm. Also the camera inclosure is IP68, not IP65 or 66 like some. These are good cameras. I will tell you what a lot will not. There's a lot of mistruths out there. Video in court will probably not get you a conviction in court unless its murder. But common vandal crimes probably not. Call me and I will tell you why.

I've added DVR with four cameras to my washes with the ability to add 4 more at each. Now it's time to view remotely. What is the minimum upload requirements (speed)? I can't wait to be able to see it remotely. I get nervous when I see other washes busy and I'm 45 minutes away wondering if I'm backed up too.

reply by GregPack about 1 year ago

It will depend on several factors, but for only four cameras 256K should be enough. I had 16 cam system hooked up to a 512K upload and video was satisfactory.

reply by raisetheprice about 1 year ago

Well the kit came with 4, but I'll be adding 2 bay cameras and 2 more on the building just for more coverage. Tech support for my system says a minimum of 700KB is required. Does this sound correct?

reply by GregPack about 1 year ago

Thats a lot for general viewing of four cameras. At 512K on my system I would have been able to see 16 cameras with each camera refreshing every couple of seconds.

The speed required will depend on what format they are trying to transmit the image in (how big it is), and how often they are refreshing. Upload bandwidth gets kind of expensive. I'd start low and work my way up.
