Whose Talking
All My Employees Come Back.
Just had a visit from an ex employee. Seems all my former employees show up again at some point, to chat, look at their cars or hang out awhile. Even the ones who left on not so great terms eventually wander back in. They apologize for the way they acted and we move on from there.
It's interesting to me that this happens. I guess I hire people because I see a certain quality in them and them coming back reaffirms that.

They come back because of that certain quality in you.
Today, I rehired one that I had fired once and had quit another time. Sometimes, the known is better than the un-known. I'm hoping the third time is the charm...we'll see.
Funny you'd say that. A mentor and friend of mine in this business said people visit my wash and detail shop because of me. I think what he meant was personalized service and building relationships with customers. It's not something that's talked about too much on these forums, but I'm sure that working on relationships with customers helps the bottom line and creates repeat business. Something as simple as being in a bad mood and yet displaying cheerfulness to customers is what I strive towards.
It would be healthier for yourself and even better for your business if you were to do something to alleviate your bad mood rather than to force a cheerful exterior.
Being cheerful is a way to temporarily coax myself out of a bad mood by acting contrary to it. I just do that until I can take time to really alleviate it. So I agree with part of what you said. Sometimes arguing back with a feisty customer would alleviate a bad mood but wouldn't bring positive results.

I leave you with this..... My idea of LEADERSHIP = To INSPIRE the right and ability to do the right thing legally, morally, and ethically. If you choose anything less, then you are saying you business is less than legal, moral, and ethical....Are you leading by example?
