I did the prom update today on our Rowe 1400 changer, it works BUT about 50 % of the time it rejects the new 5 dollar bill then it will take the same bill. I dont think they have it right yet :( I will talk to Rowe tomorrow, anbody else haveing problems with the rowe 1400 $5.00 upgrade.

I replaced the bill acceptor with the reader in it today and the machine is 100% now. Rowe says it must be dirty ???? its only 3 months old and we run the cleaners regualrly thru it ????? I will sent this reader in for them to check out. I think week mag head /???
But the machine was accepting all bills 100% EXCEPT the new $5.00 bill which only accepted about 50%. this makes me wonder about the new upgrade being a bit sinsitive ????

Rowe 1400's don't have a mag head. Bill detection is all optical. The lenses could be dusty, and they aren't touched by a cleaner card. You have to remove the transport and clean them.

You must be thinking of another unit, the Rowe BC-1400 has a magnetic Head .
I have one in my hand :)
I talked to the Rowe tech again and he said the $5.00 upgrade is more sinsitive . There-fore, the end results of installing the upgrade is that before you had very good service on all bills except the new $5.00 bill Now with the upgrade you have good service on all but the new $5.00 bill which you will have a so-so dependable service on. I think Rowe has some work to do with this.
I had my unit rebuilt by Rowe Last March, it has no more than 3 months light service on it and it is not operational becasue of the upgrade, I had to use my spare bill transport and will send the other back in for repair .
I would like to hear from other Rowe 1400 uses if they have had any problems with their recent $5.00 upgrade.

Sorry, guess it's been a long time since I've had to mess with one. I know they got rid of something troublesome between the BC-12R and the BC-1400.
